4 Types of All-Air Web Guides

Coast Controls, Inc. features four types of web guiding systems to cover all your converting needs.

  1. Steering Guides
  2. Displacement Guides
  3. Unwind Guides
  4. Rewind Guides
Web Guides

Coast Controls is a pioneer in the web guiding industry, thanks to our exclusive all-air systems.

All of our web guides operate solely on low pressure (3 to 6 psi) plant air—no electricity, electronics, or hydraulics required. Our systems are incredibly dependable because there is no worry with electronic components that burn out, plus our system is inherently explosion-proof. The all-air web guide system is easy to install and will quickly adapt to your current converting machinery. Our all-air systems are simple to install, easy to use, and energy-efficient. Our customers consistently tell us that our web guiding systems are highly accurate, extremely durable, and fail-safe.

Steering Guides

These systems are favored in guiding applications having long, free, web spans entering a converting process.

Industries that typically use steering guides include blown film extrusion, flexographic printing, multi-wall bag, coating, laminating, envelope manufacturing, or non-wovens.

We offer four types of low-pressure air-powered models designed to accommodate different web widths and applications.

Displacement Guides

They are used to straighten or align a web that has become misaligned during the converting process for whatever reason.

Also known as Intermediate Guides, these systems use idler rollers to realign the material around a fixed point. These compact machines correct misaligned material with tight configurations, making them perfect for businesses and processes with space constraints.

We carry several different models of displacement guides designed for various types of web material of varying sizes up to 130”.

Unwind Guides

Coast Controls Unwinders provide accurate edge alignment for unwinding rolls of material at the beginning stage of a process.

Lateral stand movement is power by a 6” or 8” diameter air cylinder with a 4” or 6” stroke. These manufactured guides evolved to replace existing stationary roll stands that would not otherwise lend themselves to automatic guiding applications.

These machines are most commonly used in industries such as paper, pharmaceutical, and food packaging.

Coast has three base models of unwinding guides designed for various types of web material and loads up to 7,500 lbs.

Rewind Guides

Somewhat similar to the unwind guide, we design our rewinders to evenly wind-up rolls of web material using a laterally shifting roll stand, powered by a 6” or 8” air cylinder.

An airflow sensor detects the web’s edge for misalignment, sending a signal to the controller, which sends a signal to activate the pneumatic actuator, thus shifting the roll stand to the properly aligned position.

We can retrofit existing electric or hydraulic rewind stands with our low-pressure air-powered systems.

Our rewind guides come in three base models, all created for various types of weights and web material weighing up to 7,500 lbs.
