Unwind & Rewind Guiding

Our All-Air Web Guides are used to 1) accurately align the web coming from an unwind, and 2) accurately wind webs on a rewind to assure smooth, straight-sided rolls by shifting a rewind operation.

The Coast Controls All-Air systems easily adapt to existing unwind and rewind stands.

Coast also fabricates complete shifting unwind/rewind stands capable of side-shifting loads up to 2,000 lbs (909 kg).

Unwind Requirements:
At least one fixed idler roller is attached to - and moves in unison with - the unwind stand to keep the material on a constant plane through the air-flow sensor as the diameter of the unwinding roll decreases. The air-flow sensor mounts to a stationary part of the machine independent of the shifting stand and does not move during guiding.

Rewind Requirements:
A fixed idler roller is mounted independent of the rewind stand between the air-flow sensor and the rewinding roll. Air-flow sensor is attached to and moves in unison with the rewind stand to to maintain a constant plane of the web through the sensor as the diameter of the rewinding roll increases.

Retrofitting Existing Stands:
Coast can replace older (hydraulic or electronic) controls systems on existing stands with the Coast All-Air control system. Existing stand must be in good mechanical condition and move freely-without bind. Must be properly located and installed on a web processing machine (see above requirements). It may be necessary to relocate the guide to obtain the desired guiding results. An actuator and raceway assembly attach to the shifting assembly using spherical bearings, threaded rod and a connection block. Total load to shift cannot exceed 2,000 lbs (909 kg)
